Mad About Projects - Open Day

Join us for 'Mad About Projects' - a practical and engaging day of project management training, featuring one of our award-winning gamified simulations set in the world of Mad Men.

Description

Join us for a free day of learning and networking designed for professional (and accidental) project managers.

Co-presented by Elemental Projects and the Institute for Collaborative Working (ICW) Australia, this Open Day is an opportunity to learn about project management in today's complex and fast-paced workplace and the principles of collaborative working that underpin effective business relationships.

Following this overview of contemporary project management theory is Mencken Madness - a gamified project management simulation.

The Open Day is based on sessions 1 and 2 from Elemental Projects' BSB50820 Diploma of Project Management, offering a no-cost, no-obligation opportunity to experience our practical and engaging training approach before committing to the full course.

Whether you’re an individual looking to refresh your skills and credentials, or a leader exploring options for training your team, this Open Day delivers practical insight into the skills and collaborative mindset that drive successful project delivery.

Come for the day, or stay for the qualification!

Eligible* candidates will be able to join the next intake of our BSB50820 Diploma of Project Management, with session 3 commencing two weeks after the Open Day.

* NOTE: to enroll in the BSB50820 Diploma of Project Management, you must have at least one year of project-based experience and be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

What's included

Session 1 – Morning

We start with the big picture - why project management has become a core capability across industries and professions, from infrastructure to innovation, IT, and the delivery of complex social and environmental outcomes. We'll explore the four types of projects, align them with the spectrum of delivery approaches (waterfall, agile, and hybrid methodologies), and review key concepts in latest edition of the Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBoK). Laced through this session are the principles and practices of the Institute for Collaborative Working - grounded in ISO 44000 - that support collaboration in complex environments.

Session 2 – Afternoon

Step into 1960s New York with Mencken Madness, our gamified project management simulation inspired by the hit TV show Mad Men. Compete as rival ad agencies navigating the pressures of a live project - responding to change, managing stakeholders, and producing key documents across the project lifecycle including the Project Charter, Project Plan, Status Report, and Closure Report. Beneath the fun lies a serious focus on teamwork, strategic alignment, stakeholder engagement, and collaborative behaviours - critical skills for modern project professionals.
